With 7 years of educational experience, Mauna Griffin is thrilled to book her spot as the 7th and 8th-grade English teacher! She grew up in Riverside, studied Communication and Music at UCSD, and earned her Master’s degree and teaching credential from the University of Redlands. She discovered her passion for teaching while working as an educational consultant at Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes, a specialized organization focused on developing sensory-cognitive skills to enhance reading, comprehension, and critical thinking. This experience provided her with opportunities to work with students from kindergarten to high school in both traditional and nontraditional settings, fostering her strong foundation in literacy development, which she continues to bring into her teaching practices.
Music, theatre, and nature are integral parts of Mauna’s life. Outside of the classroom, she enjoys singing, dancing, baking, exercising, and exploring the outdoors. A devoted animal lover and an only child, she fondly considers her parents’ three poodles her “fur siblings.” Passionate about making learning engaging, creative, and meaningful, she is dedicated to helping her students think critically, express themselves, and discover their unique voices. She is eager to make this school year a truly “pawsitively” exceptional experience for everyone.
