JCS Mountain Oaks
A community of innovative, life-long learners who continually strive for excellence
Welcome to JCS Mountain Oaks
JCS Mountain Oaks is a community of compassionate, innovative, life-long learners who continually strive for excellence. Our aim is to promote an academically rigorous curriculum that values the different interests, learning styles, and abilities of each student.
JCS Mountain Oaks is designed to teach the California state standards while using differentiated curriculum addressed in the California GATE standards, such as acceleration, novelty, depth and complexity. Through differentiation of the core curriculum, JCS Mountain Oaks creates opportunities for students to become analytic thinkers, creative producers and practical problem solvers. Lessons emphasize critical thinking skills, inquiry, and connections to universal concepts through cooperative learning experiences and class discussions. A variety of research-based instructional strategies and materials are used throughout the grade levels to meet the needs of all students.
Our families, teachers, and scholars are actively involved in our community. At JCS Mountain Oaks, we have Curriculum Chats, Scholarly Presentations, Student-Led Conferences, Project Exhibitions, Poetry Café and so much more to promote unity. We are so fortunate to have a great group of scholars who form our Student Leadership team. To round out our program, we have a wonderful Parent, Teacher Organization (PTO) who works closely with our staff to create an environment that is academically rigorous and fun.
JCS Mountain Oaks Home Study Program
The JCS Mountain Oaks home study program provides a combination of parent-supported home study with the guidance and instruction of a certificated educational facilitator/teacher. Students in this program will receive all of their curricula, and have the option for additional supplemental materials. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in monthly field trips and additional extra-curricular activities. JCS Mountain Oaks prepares students for the world through project-based learning and GATE instruction. In addition, an afterschool enrichment program (out-of-pocket parent expense) is available at our Encinitas campus.
Each student will receive all curriculum, including supplemental materials, upon enrollment. Parents and the educational facilitator will review the items available for immediate check out from JCS-MO. Additional items may need to be ordered.
If a student requires supplemental activities or materials that are educational in nature and needed to support learning, these will be provided. Educational facilitators will work with each family to determine which items are needed.
Enrichment activities are provided at no cost to the student. These include field trips, events on campus, park days, and more. Parents and siblings not enrolled in JCS MO will have a nominal fee to attend field trips (normally a discounted price for admission).
Students who live in the Encinitas area and want to participate in our afterschool enrichment programs are encouraged to sign up. A flyer detailing the classes offered and out-of-pocket expenses to parents is available upon request.
Upon enrollment, families will meet with their EF who will set up the student’s plan for the semester, review materials and supplementals needed, and discuss additional items that are needed to support the home study student. A Master Agreement will be signed and the student’s materials will be ordered. Materials will be shipped to students who live more than 30 miles from the Encinitas facility.
Students enrolled in JCS MO Home Study will complete their daily assignments with the help of a parent or guardian, and meet once per every 20 days with their EF to review materials, get assignments for the next learning period, and collect representative samples of work.
