Mrs. Hurst has lived in the Encinitas area for the past 16 years while raising her five children. Her first career was as a stay-at-home mom, and she now loves her second career as an elementary teacher. This is her second year teaching fifth grade at Mountain Oaks. Previously, she taught first grade at JCS Cedar Cove and worked as a long-term substitute with JCS while completing her teaching credential and master’s program.
Mrs. Hurst’s teaching philosophy is simple: create an engaging classroom for her scholars. She focuses on inspiring her students to enjoy learning, be curious, and grow into lifelong learners. She enjoys incorporating project-based learning, student leadership, and her students’ interests into the curriculum.
In her free time, Mrs. Hurst enjoys going to the beach, watching movies, traveling, playing the piano, reading, and spending time with her family. One of her favorite activities is visiting her two-year-old grandson, Saint, each month.
