Jane Shimizu was born and raised in Los Angeles County and has spent more than 25 years helping children discover the joy of learning. She earned her B.A. in Developmental Psychology from UC Santa Barbara and her Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from UCLA.

She taught third and fourth grades in the Los Angeles Unified and Walnut Unified School Districts before taking time to raise her three children. During those years, she remained active in education by volunteering in classrooms and teaching Sunday school. She later returned to public education as a long-term substitute teacher in the Encinitas Union School District, earned her California certification for Teaching English Learners, and joined JCS Mountain Oaks in 2013. She continues to expand her expertise through the USC GATE Institute with Dr. Sandra Kaplan.

Mrs. Shimizu believes every child has unique strengths and strives to create a classroom where learning is engaging, meaningful, and filled with curiosity. She feels honored to partner with families to help scholars grow with confidence, creativity, and kindness.

Outside the classroom, she enjoys swimming, snorkeling, yoga, scrapbooking, gardening, camping, and spending time with her family and sweet cocker spaniel.
