Amy Smith

Miss Amy is beyond thrilled to be working as a school OT for JCS. Even as a young child, she always knew she wanted to work with kids. Coming from a teacher family, she originally wanted to be a Kindergarten teacher. While attending Cal Poly, SLO for Child Development, she learned about Occupational Therapy and more specifically Pediatric OT. After completing her prerequisites, she went on to USC to earn her Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy.

Miss Amy worked her first 5 years as an OT in a clinic setting, working on skills such as picky eating, increasing independence with self-care tasks (e.g. utensil use, self-dressing, toileting, hygiene skills, etc.), social skills, handwriting, and sensory integration. She had the opportunity to collaborate with other occupational therapists, speech therapists, and physical therapists. Over the years she has worked with many different populations ASD, ADHD, ODD, SPD, CP, Angelman’s Syndrome, Rubinstein Taybi Syndrome, and other genetic syndromes from as young as 4 months old to 23 years old.

Outside of work, Miss Amy loves spontaneous weekend trips, reading a good book, cooking, yoga, taking her mini goldendoodle to fun places, and spending time with friends/family. She is passionate about having the opportunity to educate colleagues and parents on sensory processing and its impact on children in various environments including the classroom and at home.
